Today was the Czechoslovak national holiday, which refers to the independence in 1918. Shops and companies were closed except for ours. I will have that day in December. Now, I still wanted to do A ride on this special day so I left at 1600 and went north along the Vltava.
It was cold, windy, with drops of rain and the skies were grey. On top of that, it would be dark very early
I followed the Vltava for a while and then I changed my initial plan to go to Roztoky. Instead, I followed a little path I knew from some previous discoveries.
I have cycled over that bridge a few times, now I was heading to the right.
End of October with some beautiful sights. Enchanting red leafs
Straight ahead there is a very steep climb. I never climbed it before, but it was so steep that it even felt a bit scary on disc brakes the two times I did ti. Now I will do it uphill.
There is a nature park with some offroad tracks here as well.
From here it went up for about 600 meters, with average gradient of 15-18%. It was truly very steep and I took it with my smallest gear and out of the saddle. I gained on another cyclist btw, that was cool.
Pod Havrankou, Czech for Under the Havranka, which refers to the forest area here. It is a name to remember because this climb will have to be done more often. It is truly the steepest Prague has to offer.
On top of the climb there are gravel roads that lead into a forest. No problem on my flatbar, but nothing for my road bikes.
One look back, the last part was not so steep. This climb deserves the name "Czechia's Houshanlu". In Shalu, Taichung there was a little road called Houshanlu (road behind the mountain). This was 1.2km long and had an average gradient of 13 percent. The two are thus very similar.
Single tracks for MTB's
Resuming my way through gravel and forest roads
Still feeling warm from that climb. Maybe one day I can come with RBX disc and do it five or six times. That would be a total knock out-er
The next part was forest with rocks, a bit more difficult terrain.
I was happy with my 32mm tires with only 70 PSI. It created more grip and comfort.
That forest area led to paved road again, where I followed a sign to Dablice
And that led to the following forest area, one I visited many times, but the first time in Fall.
The cycling path was paved but full of cracks and potholes, terrible terrain!
In Dablice, I took the little path on the right which led to great views.
This has got to be one of Prague's highest spots with 305 meters.
A nice view over Prague from the top of the hill
Instead of heading straight to Cakovice, I zigzagged through a suburb, in the hope of finding something nice
This is also nice, in these leafs.
Autumn 2016 in Prague, it means I have been here one full year already.
The suburb let to this big road. I went left, which was in the direction of Cimice and Kobylisy
I tried to find another way to Cakovice via Cimice but there was only a big two lane road. So I headed back to Dablice
From Dablice I went further to Cakovice
It was 1730 and getting dark. Time to put on the lights.
Near my place I managed to find another nice shot!
