October 20, 2016: Jamming 50 km right before Home Office

Garmin Activity: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/1412778223
52 km, 2h04, elev 257 hm. Trip rating 80%

Yesterday I came up with the brilliant idea of doing a 50 km ride right before work. I went to bed earlier; woke up at 5.30, got ready and hit the road around 6.20

It was still dark but I have two lights up front, two in the back and one powerful jolt of light on my helmet. Safety aspect was OK.

It is the first time ever I used a light on my helmet. I must say, I liked it a lot. It moved with the direction of my eyes and that was every convenient. We have a winner for the winter set up.

From Cakovice it will not take a long time to leave Prague. Entering Central Bohemia.

Central Czechia, a kingdom shredded in darkness

The moon was very bright. I had a worthy companion

The moon stayed sharp even when daylight was slowly coming

I went to Stara-Boleslav just oustide of Prague, on my way I was passing the ussual towns such as Miskovice, Velen and Brazdim.

As you can see, I am investing time and money in a safe and sound rider kit.

A view from behind. One other thing I was experimenting with was slightly lower tire pressure. Instead of the usual 90; I went for 82 up front and 84 in the back. According to the GCN show, that provides more grip in winter rtdes. It felt really nice as well.

Between Brandys nad Labem and Stara Boleslav flows the Elbe, called Labe in Czech.

Mind my reflective tires as well. Meticulously chosen for every inch of visibility I can gain.

After one hour of riding it slowly became lighter. This was already after seven am.

Since the skies were very clouded I did not see a genuine sunrise. The weather hasn't been very stable lately.

There was that magical moment you turn off your bike lights and embrace daylight. It is the most important landmark any bike ride has.

This area is Karany on the map, to the east of Stara Boleslav

Another river bed, I was guessing this would be the Elbe (Labe)

Bike lights off, continue mission

As I said before, every detail matters. With my legs moving all the time, these yellow reflective band will create a lot of visibility for drivers.

Celakovice was indicated on these signs. I know that place very well

This was a very nice cycling bridge; it reminded me of the one I crossed somewhere near Leipzig in September.

View over the Elbe, very nice. Not a living soul out here at this time of the day

Would have been a lot nicer shot without the bed of clouds, in the sunrise

From here it went back to Prague

I was right about the Elbe, there was lots of information here. I also made a video clip.

Celakovice, on of the bigger cities east of Prague, together with Cesky Brod, Kolin and Kutna Hora.

The sometimes very crappy roads completely justify my 28 mm tire choice

Finally I got to see some vast landscapes. That is Czechia as I know it

Marching on! From here it was already less than 20 km.

Watch out for cyclists. They should put those signs in more places across the country.

Very good set up for winter rides

Further down the road I passed through some other well known villages: Sve,yslice and Zelenec.

The GPS made a minor detour over Kbely, but in the end I arrived home safe and sound.

52 km is a nice morning gymnastics. Now back to work!
