December 31, 2015: Saying goodbye to 2015, a fabulous and unprecedented year on the bike!

36km, 1h36, elevation 283m, trip rating 80%

We were allowed to go home at 2pm and made grateful use of this opportunity. First I checked out several other options for cycling home from work. When I entered my door I suddenly realized that I could do a small ride before darkness... I did not even change clothes and went back outside again. I calculated a 30km ride, which was not too much. It would be a nice way to say goodbye to a fantastic cycling year in which I have done somewhere around 26000 km.

Right across my place

I hit the road as I did not want to lose precious time

The church right across my house

I could enjoy a nice ride with these new Nimbus 45mm tires.

I was sent into the direction of Ctenice, a small place 3 km from my home.

It was cold but bearable. The sun setting was a charming view.

I brought these subzero gloves back from Belgium. I bought them a few years ago for winter cycling in Belgium. Who would have guessed they would come in mighty handy in frosty Czechia?

The name of this shoe says it all: Defroster. The number choice for those riding their bike in these temperatures.

It sounds funny but every time I go running or start cycling early in the morning, it is completely dark. Now I got to see my direct surroundings in broad daylight.

This is Ctenice, a small castle

Late afternoon snapshot of my MTB

I was going left here

There were some visitors at that Ctenice thing. Must be something special

There are some fucked up old buildings in this country. It s hard to believe somebody is living here...

Passing by a tiny village

2015 was slipping away, but at least I had these minutes which I did not anticipate

It is strange how tranquil it is on these roads

I stopped at this castle to make my last video report for 2015

And Jesus was watching me do it.

This must be a church

I was led to a bicycle path, which increased my level of enjoying the ride.

Gotta remember this number seventeen

Some gravel here

Each of these signs means that a certain project was made possible thanks to the support of the European Union. And there are a LOT of these signs here.

When I came here I remember I had already been here once, for a long ride, when I left in darkness. I came here in darkness and even made a picture here. You can see it in my second or third post.

Nice slope in front of me.

Daylight was being sucked out of 2015...

Cool, another small path where no motorized vehicle could come. But it was a bumpy ride

14km and I am back home. No stress for darkness needed

That sign was getting close with mother Earth

Look at that concrete, not exactly my definition of a comfy ride

These tiny roads do have the advantage of being so tranquil. I for one really enjoy this.

I saw a lot of people hanging around here...

Back to the roads shared with cars...

It was getting colder, I could feel it in the air. Sunlight was fading and temperatures were dropping

Steadily making my way back to Prague

That grass was getting frosty. That was a bad omen with regards to my ride for the next day.

This was the first time of the ride I actually bothered looking at the temperature, and what did I see? A whopping minus five degrees. Damn boy, for real??

I was lead to Brazdim, a place I will always remember as the ride I cancelled due of the frosty soil. I also go running here from time to time.

Instead of going straight home, I went into that little path on the left. I wanted to see where it led. It connected to that Prezletice area where I always go running. This discovery opened new perspectives for future runs.

By now it was getting time to turn on my bike lights

The last sunset of the year. Glad I did not miss it.

Before getting back home, I noticed these temperatures were starting to get very serious.. Minus six point one is extreme! That could jeopardize my ride tomorrow.

December 29, 2015: Testing my new MTB 700x45 Nimbus tires during a 27km night ride

I brought back my new pair of tires from Belgium. Unfortunately they were extremely difficult to get on the rim and it even cost me two inner tires before I got it right. Eventually the bike was all set up and I wanted to check out how they ride. So I had my GPS program a 20km tour outside of Prague to have a quick experience.

My two bikes in Prague, Czech Republic

Specialized Nimbus 700x45, a wonderful tire for road on MTB. I used to ride a Nimbus 32mm back in Taiwan. It was rock solid! It did not give me a single twist in 3500km.

Rear view of my bike. Looking fancy with these beefy road tires

A view right in front of my doorstep. Now let's hit the road

Let's see how these new tires feel...

It's that joyful time of the year again, full of Christmas trees and joy

A small park near my house

Train station

Leaving the city of Prague...

GPS data, just a round trip this time

Shrewd in darkness, black as far as the eye can reach

I made a movie clip here

Hezky Vanoce everybody

Not all of these pictures were a succes

There was a longer climb here of 8%. Need to come back here!

Agip gas station, I was riding along the freeway, not ON it

The entrance to a castle

Too dark to be clear

This was the best I could get of that castle

Heading back to Prague, that was 14km indeed. Further than I thought.

More pitch black roads

 I like this picture tbh

I was sent through a blocked road. Riding a bike is so much fun

I like passing through zones where cars cannot come

More darkness

Almost home, this section had too many cross sections for bicycles
