June 11, Horni Bradlo, a strange encounter with Romana and the Green Mountain route to Brno

Garmin

When I left this morning, the weather had me doubt. I felt some drops falling from the sky during my first km. The thought of just going back went through my head instantly. Somehow I still kept pedalling

My goal today was to cycle to Horni Bradlo and if needed, take a train from Pardubice back to Prague

The first of the ride was already well known to me: Celakovice - Cesky Brod = Kourim - Vitice and on to Kutna Hora

En route to Kutna Hora, the first milestone of the ride

Only took some pictures when there happened to be a sanitary stop

Blank open fields under a grey and clouded sky

This shitty weather makes the scene extra empty

Kutna Hora

Inside the city

I stopped at a Potraviny for a snack

From Kutna Hora, I went further southeast, through a variety of small lines, with even one dangerous section

The sign even said it was dangerous and that passers by should be careful

My socks got wet on this passage

One other crazy section, impossible to cycle over this with these rocks sticking out everywhere

Nice bike

A local event organized by the army

Jesus statue

More open roads as I neared the 100 km mark of this ride

Entering the Pardubice region

Nice combo of purple flowers under a grey sky

More geographical games: Vysocina region

The 125 km to Horni Bradlo were closely nearing its end. There were several new areas for me here

Horni Bradlo appeared on the signs a first time

Right before arriving, I was sent back into the Pardubice region

After 124 km, I was here, Horni Bradlo. Something very funny happened here: I met a colleague from work who lives in this town, even though I did not inform her I was coming.

In Horni Bradlo I decided what I should do: cycle back to Prague or go to Brno? I told myself that if the distance to Brno was less than 130 km that I would do it. And guess what? It was 123 km. So there I went...

Every Horni also has a Dolni, same logic applies to Dolni Bradlo

After Horni Bradlo, there was a very long section in this forest area where elevation played around a lot. It was nice, but lots of elevation gain.

In this afternoon, elevation plunged between 500 and 740 several times.

And lots of stretches had awful road quality

Overcast skies

This spot was at 700 m elevation and I met some other cyclists here

This area is called Zelecne Hora, the iron mountain

It was sooo tranquil here, that was so nice

It drizzled a lot but it never really rained

Brno in less than 80 km

Empty forest roads... I had calculated that I would be in Brno well before 8 pm

In Brno I would decide if I would take a train of spend the night in a pension

Impressive church

I recognized the name Tisnov, I had a booking there a few weeks ago but did not make it

Jihomoravsky region, meant I am far from home...

Out in the open, that's where I like to be...

Not as many of them as a few months ago, but still found one

Progress was well within schedule, no stress, just enjoy the ride

The city of Tisnov, 30 km from Brno. There was a hotel here and I was thinking on just spending the night...

But then again, I wanted to go to Brno, so that is what I did...

Sky was getting darker... Would it rain after all?

The last stop at a gas station before I would be there. Still 20 km left...

I noticed right away Brno was a bigger city, I saw signs of city parts, a lot of traffic and many buidlings

The city of Brno in the late evening

After almost 250 km and before darkness, I reached the Brno station

A very impolite woman at the counter desk, but I got my ticket

Ready for departure to Prague, main station
