142 km, 5h49, elev. 1850m. Trip rating 90%
I did not have a lot of time today, but with some good preparation I managed to do a six hour ride. I went up north to Krupka. I went north from Cakovice, to Treboradice and further north. After about 8 km my GPS already showed me a new route. This is because I had the complete map updated.
My newly purchased front light was illuminating my path quite nicely. I found myself in Odolena Voda, where I somehow connected to route 608, which took me further up north:
Early shift today, but it is a small price to pay if it means I get to do a nice ride
Route 608 went to Veltrusy and further up north. Part of this was familiar territory form a June ride.
I saw the sun rising gently. Around 7 am it was light enough
At that time I already did 30 km
Cycling through Central Bohemia on Saturday morning
As I came close to Ustecky Kraj, I saw hills appearing at the horizon.
Less than 40 km away from home I already made it to the Ustecky region, district of Litomerice
More sections of 608 got me further up north:
I remember taking a picture here on my very first CZ ride, 14th of November 2015.
50 km was already a big milestone on this medium range ride
Some castle
As I went further north, I found that I was only going through tiny villages: It started getting more interesting here.
And I started feeling the hills
Covering some miles on my rim brake Roubaix
Good morning first October day!
I remember these views from my first ride ever, about 11 months ago
I saw my chance for some snacks at this Potraviny
This spot I also remembered from the very first ride: I remember recording a movie clip here: All of this made me think of how I have filled these 11 months.
Slowly gaining some elevation as well
Many sights worthy of a picture
Very beautiful...
My GPS was sending me in a certain direction, but I remembered a small path from my first ride here. I went in and found the same very steep segment, which passed this pond. I took a moment to enjoy this view.
Conditions were more favorable than last time
This segment climbed to 500m and then descended immediately to 250m.
These panoramas were enchanting
Memories of that mythical first ride! Nothing can ever replace that feeling of the first ride ever in a country: I had the same sensation about the setting of my first Taiwanese ride many years ago.
Descending further...
It again struck me how nobody else was cycling here
What followed next was the familiar section to Krupka. It all seemed to go so fast, a lot faster than the first time.
One long descent to less than 200 meters
Welcome to Modlansku
I was here, Krupka, once again!
Here, the topography started going up again. There was a very long climb that went all the way up to almost 800 meters. It averaged at 9% but often 12-15%. Honestly speaking that was an intensive section.
Here it all went up. I was back at 400 meters before I left Krupka, then one long climb to 650m at Horni Krupka.
Very long and steep climb. Nice though!
Map of Krupka
I was this close to the German border. My goal was to go to that border, but unfortunately it was somehow 21 km. I did not have the time for that.
Taking a small break here
Horni Krupka, the mountain of Krupka, the climbing did not stop here
It went further, to 700m and then to 750m and then still 25 meters more up
The highest point was around 780 meters. At the summit it went down and there was Fojtovice, the border town.
From Fojtovice, I went to Adolfov, with the purpose of returning to Usti nad Labem via another direction, making a loop rather than repeating the road I just took.
High elevations here
Did I see that well on the signs? Germany within one km?
I had first gotten rid of the idea to cross to border, as it seemed far on the map, but then I saw this sign. Only 1km meant that I had to go check it out...
The one km was apparently an offroad section with loose stones, not suitable for riding. So I walked down there
This off road section kinda confirmed what I saw on the map. Because I did NOT see a road going into Germany. It was just not a paved road, but the connection was there.
Approaching the German border
It was a one km walk down there
Suddenly I saw the Czech language writing/ Pozor, Statni Hranice, which means, warning, approaching border.
Germany was in front of me. What a great discovery! It prompted me to making a movie clip.
Here I was officially standing on German soil
Judging from this memorial rock, apparently these villages used to be German territory, but presumably went over to CZ after the world war.
I did not waste more time than necessary and walked back up the rocky road, into Czech republic.
Then it was 22 km to the train station of Usti nad Labem.
I passed through the town of Adolfov and there were still some hills here
Beautiful Saturday morning ride
This is a nice area
Town of Adolfov. Here it went downhill and I was able to develop some speeds
Descending from 700+ to 200m is still quite the descend.
Shocking to see Dresden was so close, I was there one month ago.
On my way to Usti nad Labem
I was here and I even made it in time for the 13:13h train, which brought me back to Prague one hour earlier. This well planned ride was a success!
Good stats! I was very happy about this ride. It was a lot better than nothing
Usti nad Labem, 142km, nice ride1
