July 30, 2016: That mysterious summer sunset in between Javornik and Vimperk

Garmin activity: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/1283761771
209km, 9h27, elevation gain 3233m. Trip rating 95%

From Cakovice I had to go all the way to Prague city. Tbh, I HATE that part. I have done it quite a few times already and every time I lose a lot of time over traffic, cobbles and trams. Next time I will take a train out of Prague. The above picture was taken after 2 hours of cycling.

It was getting warm and this is were the elevation begins to kick in.

Tranquil Saturday morning

On my way to Sumava

The views were nice

Sometimes there were some clouds but the overall picture was positive

Already left Western Prague behind me and I was heading for Pribram.

I always take my time to study geography...

Heading south I passed to a town called Dobris

In Pribram I saw a little kiosk selling stuff. I wanted a popsticle

Pribram city center

I believe it is the fourth time i am doing this segment

Between Pribram and Pisek

That seemed like trouble ahead but it stayed dry

Statue of Jesus

That striking moment when you enter South Bohemia...

There was a military parade of old WW2 vehicles.

Good for today, trouble tomorrow

There was a section where the road was closed due to an event. No idea what was going on, I just carried my bike over the fence and continued my journey

And I ignored all these ppl that were watching me

Every day I'm cycling...

I was in the area of Strakonice, the last major city before the Sumava mountain range

Goose patrol

After Strakonice, it was not very far to Vimperk anymore

 Vast openness

When I saw this little cafe, I stopped for some refreshments

I sat here for 40 minutes, had a soup and some cola, made use of thair wifi and I checked the map. I decided that I would go to Javornik, one of the peaks in this area

Ti vole, je to horko!

Javornik was 1000 meters so inevitably there would be hills

Warm summer day in the ever enchanting southwest

Elevation level: 700 meters. Beautiful landscape

Just watch that asphalt trying to make its way up to the sky!

800 meters and counting...

The higher you go, the less homes and marks of civilization remain

This was close to 900 meters

Stachy, I once spent the night there, in a weekend with snow!

Very interesting to see this referral to the Pilzen region. Indeed, if you look in the map you will see that Sumava is neatly divided by two regions: Pilzen and South Bohenia. Another lightning geo class.

And here I was again, in the village of Javornik. Although I did not find the 1060 m summit they were talking about.

My GPS wanted to send me via exactly the same way down again and I am glad I did not listen, because I found something very nice

Then out of the blue I saw a small sign indicating the summit of the mountain which was 1.5 km. It was very steep, around 12% and it led me to the top!

1046 m elevation gain, nice...

The summit of Javornik

Finally I found the top of the Javornik. That was a good result on this warm summer day.

Now it was almost 19:00 and I still had 25 km to cover to Vimperk. Let's roll!

Instead of following my GPS, I followed the bike path 1226 bound to Vimperk. I was sent through some magical small lanes in the hills.

One shiny S-Works high in the hills of Sumava. Proud to say it is all mine

I had a constant urge for taking pictures in this segment

Pure beauty as far as the eye can reach

Rides are only great if you make 'em great. And today I made it very great!

So nice to see these Christian artifacts in the fields

This sunset in the high hills was like a dream, but I was also awake and smelling the scent of mother nature

Sunset, Southern Bohemia high hills style

I am on my way to Vimperk, 14 km left at this spot

With landscapes like these I am in no rush of getting there

This is it, I am grasping the beauty of the central European summer!

In the very last 5 km there was one sneaky pincher that soared up to 750 meters. It was steep and I felt it good all the way at the tail of the ride.

Whole day of solar cycling inevitably got me some tan

At last after 210 km and more than 3000 hm, I arrived at my hotel. It was a very nice hotel btw

Good numbers! I finished the day with a good meal and a nice tranquil evening
