January 29, 2017: And now I am f'ing sick of this harsh winter!

On Sunday, we woke up in Hluboka and had breakfast together in a nearby hotel. Then I got wrapped up and hit the road. The idea was to go to Tabor and take a train back to Prague.

I was relieved because the weather looked better, albeit very cold

At 11.15 my exodus began, with only 65 km to Tabor. Easy as cake one would say

To the cycling trails, as indicated on the signs

Soon, I found myself one year back in time, when end January 2016, I cycled over these same roads on my way to Tabor.

But this weekend was a lot colder than last year

I remembered every little detail of this ride, it made me think a lot about how I had spent that year, cycling and living in Czech Republic

Upon seeing the name it still baffled me how I had not managed to recognize the name.

Then I found myself again in these hills, around 500 meters height

Minus ten once more

This open spot was green for instance last year

It was nine km from Hluboka to the next little town, Kostelec, where they even have a Dutch camping

This route is along cycling trail 12, which will lead straight to Tabor

Nice views

These stunning panoramas made me very happy. It meant I was using this time in the winter nicely

Magnificent, for me this area will always have mythic aura

And then the misery started: first it was roads with ice which prompted me to ride slowly, then it was a full stop.

I had to walk here for a full 3 km, which slowed me down big time. Even walking was hard with all this hard ice. I did not have grip. This is the moment where I had had enough of this winter.

It also went uphill to 520 meters

At the very end of it there was a beautiful spot with the sun on it.

I made a video report of how the snow was falling down from the trees

This moment truly had fairy tale like proportions, just gorgeous

Apart from my tight schedule there was another imminent problem: my rear derailleur somehow got disorientated and kept pulling the chain. No way I could go to Tabor like that. So I decided to go to Veseli nad Luznici, which was close by. I cycled there without stopping the pedaling, so that my chain did not suffer.

Rear derailleur will have to be serviced

From the train ride yesterday, I remembered that this Veseli nad Luznici was a big train hub. Paying attention paid off

Little chapel

Actually I was a bit frustrated about this weekend: did not get the weather the forecast promised, did not want to be dealing with ice and surely not with engine troubles.

Inside the city center. The train station itself was 2km outside of the city

The train station. I had to ask some people to find it

I bought my ticket and waited for an hour or so before it came. Everything went smoothly

Very disappointing numbers, but I will just make up for it in the summer.
