104 km, 4h51, 793hm. Trip rating 65%
The weather was bad again for the sixth consecutive weekend and I felt extremely lazy. As a result I got up later and only did a short 100 km ride.
I cycled from my place to Prague city
I wanted to go to the Specialized bike shop and buy one or two of those cycling bags they have
Holesovice in Prague, about to cross the Vltava
In the park there were many directions to chose from
Not many people out here today, just a sad grey morning
Ice in the background
Simple bike art over a small bridge
15 km from home I was in the Specialized shop. They did not have the bags I wanted to I ended up not buying anything. A bit disappointed, I wanted to do more cycling
I navigated from Dejvice to Roztoky, which lies just north of Prague
A few km in the city led me to the Vltava river.
I realized I was actually at the opposite side from the bike path I usually take along the Vltava
I cycled here before on the other arm of the river
Leaving Prague city behind me
Still cold
There was a ferry here for cyclists. I met a Czech guy who explained me it was 20 czk for a passage.
I kept following this west bank of the Vlatava and I went north as far as I could.
Several signs indicated that this was going to Kralupy, although not an official bike trail
To my big disappointment there were still sections of roads fully covered in ice where I had to walk
At some point I was led away from the Vltava and a nice climb followed< From there I made my own route using the yellow signs for bikes.
I took a left to this town called Tursko
This area was never visited by me. Cycling my own way instead of Garmin navigation rocks
Typical town with church and square
I arrived in Kralupy, where I had a break near a Potraviny
A spot I remember from many rides before. Today I wanted to ride that trail to Melnik which I never did before.
But first a picture along this bridge, just like I did on my return to Prague from Belgium.
I climbed up a steep hill where I had no business, then I went down again
The castle of Nelazovehes I suppose. It is close to the Veltrusy castle
Weird bridge which is only for cyclists and pedestrians
Surprisingly enough that route 7 to Melnik led past this castle. I was here just a few weeks ago.
Closing in on Melnik, 12 km left
I studied the map and decided that after Melnik I would go to Neratovice and then back home.;
To Melnik I could chose the boat or the stairs?
Some stupid pictures
Inspecting my bike, which will be my buddy for my very long summer ride
I had to walk up the stairs here to cross the river
Very bizarre for a cycling path but ok
Cycling trail, of course with EU money
Six km left to Melnik
There was still a lot of ice everywhere, but most of the times I could cycle
Be careful though
This was a very remarkable scene. I saw a few deer crossing this field and I tried to capture it, so I was very quiet. But they still heard me and ran off together. At least I had some proof of it.
Very mysterious indeed...
I rode the cycling path to the end, to Melnik
I could see the castle pretty well
Urgh... more ice that sent e walking
So there is a route 2 here that leads to Roudnice nad Labem. Will be for next time. I will use my MTB for that one.
Melnik with the castle in the background
Where the Labe and the Vltava meet...
Last stage of the ride was to Neratovice and back home.
Back near Prague
The cold open fields of the winter
Via Panensky Brezany I found my way bike home
A minor celebration for the 100 km mark.
A cycling day which seemed to be lost, still turned out to be nice
I arrived home at 16.20 which still gave me the whole evening for relaxing
