136 km, 6h25, 2212 hm. Trip rating 70%
A good night rest and a nice breakfast right before I hit the road again. I climbed to the northern exit of Trebic. That's where my mission to Ceska Trebova began.
Considering the flexibility for bikes on trains, I decided to the a B to C ride instead of the same ride as yesterday.
This approach lets me discover new terrain and have more diverse cycling weekends.
It took me less than ten km to realize that today would be a LOT of climbing. I had 200 meters after six km.
A long steep climb to a forest led to 600+
The morning was cold and grey, just like the Saturday ride.
All the climbing and cold weather made me think about just taking a train somewhere. Good thing I didn't
There was a descent in a forest full of ice, which sent me walking. Again luckily it was a short part
Not the best cycling conditions...
Icy weekend number 7. A point where it got a little mental on me.
Mysterious Vysocina
In 20 km I almost climbed 500 meters.
Velke Mezerici was the first big town on my way. It meant 30 km in the ride
One of today's many hills. They were so steep!
Winter Vysocina
Czech republic is full of forests and every single one made me fear icy roads
In a way depressing
Even this section had 3-4%. Not a single section was pancake flat.
Kraj Vysocina, a worthy KOM area
50 km and almost a 1000 meters of climbing. I was happy I had only 136km today
The roads were good
Me and my bike
Nice castle. Its Czech name was Holy Bartholomew Church. It carried my name!
Evidence of that statement
The first time I spotted the sun.
3 hours of cycling, 62 km, 1100 meters. Those were my stats
There was a nature area here called Zdarsky Vrchy
In this hilly ride the disc brakes were very much appreciated
Yes, the sun came out! There would be some positive vibes
Starting to like this...
One of the many climbs, but this time it pushed me to 700+. The highest point of the ride
In this high elevation forest I only heard the sound of birds. A mysterious sensation
Then I saw this killer number: an 18% descent. Without discs that would be just dangerous
High elevation means nice views. This was after noon when the sun already came out.
Magnificent!
That 18% descent made me experience my top speed of 58, but not long after that it was very steep uphill again.
Eighteen percent uphill. That means out of the saddle on the lowest gear and pushing hard.
The city of Jimramov was next on the route.
Made the elevation of that road behind me. Crazy stuff today!
I took many similar photos this weekend
So desolate, it struck me how no one else was out here cycling
80 km into the ride I left Vysocina behind me. Pardubice didn't mean less climbing though.
On a slow progressing ride it meant a big mental barrier
Snowy hill nr 256
I was lost in thoughts, just following my GPS instructions and absorbing this snow white panorama
Holy Cross of Jesus, there are many of these in the country side.
The city of Policka, partner city of Westerveld in the Netherlands
The town from afar
The name Litomysl sounded familiar. I remember being there a few times in 2016.
105 km has been completely in hills with lots of climbing. But in this area I enjoyed 10 km of downhills and flat sections. It felt good! It also meant that my progress was going better and my average speed was well above 20.
Approaching Litomysl
A few km before Litomysl I recognized the area. I had cycled there in August. I somehow followed the route the same way for a few km. This is where I crossed the road I knew already.
Litomysl... I have been here once in February en route to Moravska Trebova and once in August on my way to Ostrava. Today marks number three.
I did not anticipate it, so the feeling was mighty
After Lytomysl there will still a few climbs. The sun was slowly setting...
I remember this climb very well. At this point I climbed more than 2000 meters and I was still tired from Saturday4s 3K. In this section I honestly felt tired.
Less than 10 km from Ceska Trebova.
It went again to 600+ and I passed some nice small forest lanes. The sunset made it romantic
This cycling weekend fulfilled me with happiness. It was so good to be outside.
Ceska Trebova to the right. A very long descent followed where my discs were a blessing
A double digit amount of hairpin turns brought me down to Ceska Trebova.
In the city, one last mission: find the train station
Beautiful building. I bought my ticket to Prague, bought a snack and went home.
Excellent numbers this weekend. 340 km with 5K elevation in almost 16 hours.
