304 km, 11h12, elevation 2350m. Trip rating 90%
Today was a national holiday in Czech republic and I made good use of it by doing a long distance cycling trip. The target of my journey was the Polish village of Mieroszow right across the border, where one of my colleagues is from.
It was already daylight when I left and this view only 2 km from baffled me. Nice combo of colors
Young rider ready for an all day journey on two wheels
The first section of the ride was flat and progress was very good
I was being sent through all the roads I cycled a few months ago when it rained. I took my flatbar that day and I was so wet and cold. Today was different!
I recognized every twist and turn from the last time
The sun came out to play with me today
Claas agricultural vehicle, just like we have at home
Even though it was a holiday, traffic was very low. I had the roads for myself
After almost 90 km I arrived in the region of Hradec Kralove.
The topography stayed flat and progress was very good. I was ahead of schedule
I had plenty of time to enjoy these sceneries that are to be found in the Czech hinterland
Bartman already wrapped up his first 100 km today
There were clouds but the temperature was nice and the shades of the sun made their way to the earth
This is how summer in this country looks
After 120 km I was still riding familiar roads
Right after this picture I learned that this is not only a cyclists bridge. A car raced through
I remember this town from that rainy ride. It left such a deep impression on me that day
Cobbles for my entertainment
It was shocking to see that Wroclaw in Poland was already indicated on the signs
Slowly I was migrating in the direction of Nachod and the Polish border, in the background there were already some hills visible
The flat segments had stopped, there were more ascents now. Elevation increased as well
The elevation brought me to more desolate and more beautiful areas, really nice
Making progress en route to Poland
20 km from Mieroszow. A feeling of excitement started to ferment inside
I like these everywhere present cycling signs. It would be possible to cycle without GPS
Mieroszow in Poland was now indicated on the signs
A map of the surroundings. Mind the hills you see at the border. I was experiencing them!
My bike at the Czech-Polish border.
Welcome to Poland
Street signs are apparently green over here
There was not much to see in this town, I went through the center
Mieroszow center
It was a beautiful day, but some gusts of wind here
The hills of South Poland
Watch for cows
Excellent spot for a picnic
I made a video report here
Then I climbed out of the city, back to Czech Republic. Not much later it started raining
During my descent here I experienced rain and hid under the first shack I saw
And I made a video report in Chinese in the meanwhile
Luckily it was only a shower and only a few minutes later the coast was clear
I was doubting what I should do: go to Kolin or Pardubice? In the end I chose Pardubice because Kolin would be 40 km more.
There were some steep climbs here. I loved the discs in the descent
The view over my handlebar
From the border to Pardubice was 100 km and 50 km of that were an exact repetition of the road I cycled before. No problem, I took my time to enjoy the views
Going south on the map made me suffer a lot of head winds. It was making me weary
Almost in Hradec Kralove, that means Pardubice is not far anymore
I took this exact same picture on November 21, 2015, during my second ride ever in Czechia
It was still a good 25 km to Pardubice, but I was there
I enjoyed this ride and the numbers were also incredible: I was closing in on 300 km
Bed of sunflowers in the evening
I had to find the railway station in Pardubice and that was not so easy. Luckily I spoke the language and I could ask people for instructions. In the end I made it.
On the train back to Prague main station!
At the end of the day I had every reason for being proud of these numbers: distance incredible, time very good and elevation gain also very sweet
