July 17, 2016: Genuine impressions of Austria en route to Brno

191km, 7h25, elevation 2121m. Trip rating: 80%

I had a nice breakfast at the hotel but it was time to hit the road again. Today's journey would lead me to Brno, just like a few weeks earlier but this time from a very different angle.

My first genuine cycling experience in Austria was about to begin

A little under 200 km to Brno, sounds doable for one day

The capital was indicated already, I was not very for from it

The first part showed me some elevation gain, most of Austria was above 500 meters

Little villages under a cloudy sky

One section was so steep that I had to walk. Well, that was mainly because of the sand instead of paved road but still

The roads were quiet and calm

First impressions of Austria were nice

Beautiful snapshot next to a lake. Could you tell from this picture it was not very warm?

Indeed, it was windy and chilly. Wearing my jacket didn't seem too much for a single second

Typical greeting sign near a village that Greets God

This was a very special morning, the color of the skies was very phenomenal

Special feeling that no other European ride ever gave me

Just like in Czechia, there were many forests here too

I made some video footage here

More peculiar skies... Was it the combination of a mid summer day and cold temperatures with winds that caused this?

Close up from my favorite bike

I was surprised that the whole section in Austria was between 500-600 meters elevation

This picture proves my point of the temperatures

Waving from one small town into the other

Some glimpses of society

Here, my GPS gave me a 15 km instruction that led to a Czech name. My conclusion: I was gonna cross the border already.

Not before enjoying these last Austrian miles

The style is similar to German and Czech villages

Beautiful view

And all of the sudden I was at the border

I made a video report about that as well

On Czech side I could at least pay in Czech crowns again. I passed through a town called: Stare Mesto pod Landsteijnem. It struck me because it is a combination of German and Czech in one name. It means: Old city near the border stone. Pretty interesting huh!

First part of CZ made me climb again

All things considered it was quiet out here

I was taking many hills and all of the sudden I was in the region of Trebic. I was here once earlier in March.

Some information about microregions, nice for tourism.

The whole ride was taking me to new, undiscovered places. That was the beauty of it

And slowly the distance to Brno decreased...

Me and my bike cruising around in Southern Czechia

I was getting ahead of schedule. There was one particular descend where my speed was more than 60 kmph and I could maintain it for some time. That was a nice feeling.

A small town some 20 km away from Brno

I was ahead of schedule and I liked it. I would be taking an earlier train back to Prague

Sunflowers that were ignoring me

Welcome to Brno

Last picture of the day: Down this hill is the Brno train station. I arrived in Prague before darkness and I spent the evening with Narmin
