February 14, 2016: The stunning panoramics of Czechia's Central South on Valentine's Day

204km, 8h29, elevation 2428m. Trip rating 85%

I woke up at six and got ready. I had a bread with eggs for breakfast at six thirty. I enjoyed it in tranquility and hit the road at 7:15, when daylight was already there.

The view from my hotel room. It was misty. Probably due to my 600+ m of altitude

Leaving the town of Trebic required care. The 12% steep hills I had faced yesterday were now downhill. Traffic was low but still I had to control my speed.

One last view of the city and then I was gone. I had selected Benesov as a destination because it would give me a different ride. From here it was 140 km.

This cycling path was actually only lying next to the big road I used yesterday. When I found out, I returned to that road because it was better for developing speeds

Not a living soul here

A thick layer of mist

Behind those bushes was the real road

Castle-like construction

This was once again the segment next to the railroad tracks

Going for Jihlava, the first major location on today's route.

I noticed that my brake pads were almost finished. My recent cycling must have been intensive then with all these hills. Better change them as soon as I get back home.

Before making it to Jihlava city, I once again had to face this Horror Alley. I had hoped that I would have another selection of roads for today...

This is not a road bike section and if it weren't for my thick and robust 28 mm tires, I would not cycle here.

I carefully cycled for the section that was not too steep. But then there was a -13% descent. That is where I started walking

Which gave me the time for some more footage

Finding myself in a misty, isolated, crappy, little field road in the south of Czechia. The view is still nice though

8 am, this crappy road covered a distance of 2 km. I lost some time here

See that big ascent up front? I did cycle on there

One last goodbye to Horror Ally. Now let the journey to Prague continue

Yesterday, all my elevation was in the second part of the ride. That means that today, I had it in the first part of the ride. In the first 30 km I already climbed a good 500 meters.

There were wet spots on the roads, but in the forests that would be plain mud

To the right for Jihlava. There is a long descent here where I dropped 100 m. I kept my speed under 40 kmph as my brake pads were almost gone

The foggy morning was slowly fading away and I was getting a nice cycling day instead.

I bought some drinks in Jihlava and hit the road again. My road was still 90% the same from yesterday, even though I selected another destination.

It was getting warmer, warm enough for me to take off my winter gloves and wear the smaller ones. I kept them on all the way to Prague.

Still 160 km away from home

This road was blocked because of tree works. Good thing I could pass. Right after this, there was a forest area with a longer continuous climb.

Crystal clear sky at Bily Kamen, once again

Since my GPS still guided me through the same roads, I decided not to bother with Benesov anymore. I just navigated home, which was exactly 200 km, just like yesterday.

I stopped to enjoy this landscape panorama. Truly striking

I even made a short video report

Local map, useful for home study of Czech topography

Elevation was already over 1000 m, but between 50 and 65 K, I did not climb a lot.

I stopped at that small gas station for a snack once more. This time I saw a nice quad.

My brother told me it was Chinese junk. Anyway, from here is was 125 km to home.

The tiny village of TIS. How could I not take a picture with this lake

Slowly approaching the halfway point of 100 km.

A bumpy ride for me these two days. They should seriously work on these roads

The panorama's are pretty much all alike: vast openness and hills all over the place

With already more than 3000 km on the Czech roads, it still strikes me how tranquil and isolated all of this is. People in Prague never come here. It is a totally different world.

The halfway point! Leaving Visocina Kraj for Stredocesky Kraj. There would be less climbing in the second part, so progress would be good. I calculated that I would probably be home by 5:30 pm.

A big John Deere tractor

In the last part I did not stop for many pictures. The views were still pretty much the same. Moreover, I had been riding and flashing here yesterday as well. The afternoon was once again beautiful.

The further I advanced, the clearer it became that I had no time pressure. I was perfectly able to round up this ride before darkness. From here it was still 60 km.

Kutna Hora, once again

A quick snapshot within the city of Kutna Hora. From there, I was sent along Route 2 for 14 km. A lot of it was climbing. This section is where I made the 2000 m mark.

Small lanes between Kutna Hora and Cesky Brod. I was getting thirsty and I had expected to visit the gas station I saw yesterday. However, this is where my Garmin sent me through a different route.

More climbing here. Prague was close, less than 35 km.

Approaching Cesky Brod. This is an old city wall remainder

This potraviny was open so I took my chances. I bought some water and ate my last sandwich here. Then I got ready for the last 30+ km.

Rounding up the last miles. Prague was very close now. Here, I recognized everything from yesterday.

This time I could see it all in broad daylight. This cycling path is just 15 km from home.

186 km and counting.

Capital city of Prague, less than 10 km from home

Close to my place. I often come by here on morning jogging sessions

Today's numbers

My movement on the map. I did this twice in two days
