May 21, 2017: Into Germany, through the Bavaria forest, across the former East-West border to Türingen

200 km, 8h52, 2424hm

Early Morning in Cheb, I started cyclng at 6.30. I needed to buy something for breakfast still

The weather seemed to be quite nice

I bought a few sandwiches for the rest of the day and I was able to carry them on top of my bag

I bought this cable for 109 czk so I could charge up my phone. Now it was really time to hit the road

German border, Bayern region. I came here once in February 2016 but I never continued here. Today I did...

Ready for the biggest chunk of this ride: 650km within Germany!

As soon as I entered Germany; there were many hills. Here I was over 600 meters

I took of one jacket already as I was getting warm

As mich as I went uphill, there was always a downhill section after it

Small German town

I love these yellow fields, they bring me the genuine feeling of Spring. Just like last year.

Getting used to the constant climbing and descending

Extremely lovely weather today! A big contrast with yesterday.

This area is called Bayrischer Wald; Bavarian Forest in English. It is a big forest area at higher elevation in East Germany

Good morning Germany and thanks for a kind reception!

It looked like a fairy tale and what's better is that I was the only one here. I did not see any cars or cyclists.

Many place names here with the suffix Reuth.

With 50km or 1/4th done; I took a break and ate a sandwich. This was around 9.30 in the morning. I checked my newly bought cable and it worked fine. Progress was also great

Back into the higher hills. Elevation was constantly around 600

Yellow fields in May. It has become a theme for me since last year.

Wow, minus 19 with sharp turns. Very dangerous section

Frankenwald

I entered this Frankenwald and there was a longer descent to 400 meters.

Slowly I was going in the direction of Kronach. Actually today's route was fundamentally different from last year. I was sent over very different roads. I liked it.

Then there was a section of offroad which was ridiculously steep. I had to walk down and even that was difficult.

Did you say steep?

This small section made me lose some time unfortunately but I had time to lose. And the view was nice

German style churches

I was over half way here and I took a break here. I ate my last sandwich. Very chill spot.

Spelt the same way backwards!

Sonnekreis, a steep long climb followed

More yellow fields

Would it rain after all? It was getting clouded

Making my way through the Bayrischer Wald

The demarcation line between former East and West Germany. I had a very interesting chat with a guy who walked by here. He told me about those days. It was very interesting

Meiningen was already close. Unlike last few times, I did not cycle through the city of Coburg.

German style church

Typical German house

I met another cyclist here with who I had a chat. This time I spoke with so many people.

30 km before finish, I had landed in a flatter section.

I was enjoying my time on the bike, it was going well

20 km to Meiningen and this was all via cycling paths

These cycling paths were unreal; zen; relaxing and just chill

The river Werra and thsi cycling trail was called the Werra cycling trail

200 km to Meiningen; nearly 400 km from Prague. Two outta five went well
