Garmin activity:https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/1652537541
228 km, 10h, 2800hm.
This morning I left with the laptop in my backpack. I would cycle to Linz in two days time and meet my mom, so we could go home together by car. I left early in the morning with a heavy backpack. This picture is at Praha-Dubec, Prague 10
The GPS was giving me all kinds of crazy calculations so I followed my own logic, going south as if I would go to Tabor.
It would be a full day task getting there, but luckily unlike last year in day lights saving time.
One little detail I am not very proud of: I cycled the whole weekend without a helmet, since I did not want to take it back to Prague on the plane. I was more careful than usual I have to admit.
As the sun was rising I could feel it would be warmer than recently in Czechia. Luckily I did calculate that in for my dressing
Tynec nad Sazavou, last time I came here there were road blocks. Today I was going in no matter what.
road blocks were still there but I walked through this forest and went around it. pretty epic!
It did cause me some time loss unfortunately
From there, I could already navigate to Ceske Budejovice. I would have 200 km there.
Getting warmer...
The beautiful roads between Tynec and Tabor. I stopped at the Potraviny I visited a few times before.
The skies were also open and clear. It reminded me of my trip around Germany nearly one year ago.
I dropped my scarf and pants already.
This area will forever remind me of November 2015 when I came here for the first time
This is the area where the high peaks are located. I was getting ready for that
Still very early on the day but absolutely epic to be outside
Making my way to Tabor, which is kinda the half way point for today
It got sunny and I was sweating a lot. Later I learned I also burned my face on this day.
I was sent through some small lanes which made me miss the South Bohemia sign, but I knew I was there
It was my last weekend on this rim brake roubaix, that thought filled me with a tad of sorrow
Tractor in the field
It was getting warmer, already 20 degrees. And this on the first of April!
I relaxed here for a while and ate grapes and bananas. Healthy food this time
A little over hundred km done, things were looking good
It was a Bohemian journey, jumping from one hill to the other
cute
I have never cycled like this before, without any coverage over my face
gorgeous views...
.
Talking a minute or two also gave me the opportunity to put down my overloaded backpack. It reminded me of how I cycled to Belgium and back with that laptop. Crazy stuff!
Many panoramas like this today, I only stopped for a few pictures
luscious lake
thumbs up for an epic ride!
I arrived in Tabor and was sent through the center. It brought back memories of many visits here. This particular spot reminds me of last year's summer when I came here with Narmin
After Tabor, a new challenge awaited me. It was noon and I was well on schedule
I learned right here that Tabor lies next to the Luznice river.
Closed for cars, open for cyclists, fantastic
Right after Tabor there was a lot of climbing and I was sweating big time.
Leaving Tabor behind me after a nice and big climb
Hluboka nad Vltavou, I visited that place a few weeks ago when it was snow white: According to my memory, I would pass there today again:
I was well ahead of schedule and I felt very relaxed: But it was so hot!
At this point I felt I overdressed: But ni my defense it was minus three this morning
more climbs in the afternoon to keep me focused
old car
I was so well ahead of schedule that I decided to stop for a small break: I ate grapes and bananes and I charged my GPS: It was only 85 km from here and I had covered already 141: I was a bit surprised because last time it was 243 km to Kaplice: This was 15 km less:::
This moment of rest while relaxing in the countryside is fantastic
This way sir!
Slowly my face was turning red
Good times on my Roubaix, under a completely coudless sky
Entering the district of Ceske Budejovice: I remembered this area:
This epic long stretch with a minor yet constant ascent: This was 15 months ago: I cannot believe how fast everything went!
A potraviny here offered me a chance to buy more water and fruit
9 km before entering Ceske Budejovice there was a long descent
From Ceske Budejovice it was only 30 km left. You got this Bartman!
It went straight through the city center, in between heavy traffic
I came here a few times with Narmin as this is the way to Frymburk
Seeing LINZ already indicated on the signs gave me courage: That would be tomorrow's destination
Downtown Ceske Budejovice
I went south and left the city behind me; It the 200 km stop I granted myself another break: Which was right here
I sat down here for 30 minutes and relaxed, time was on my hands. I saw one cyclist constantly passing by here. I guess he was running laps or something:
Last 25 km would keep me busy for more than an hour thanks to the many hills:
One thing was sure though: unlike last time I would arrive in daylight, so no stress
That moment when two different bike paths lead to the same destination: Kaplice. I went left
A minor descent and then I passed by a dam
Focus on that lake in the middle of the picture: I was going over it; south; to Kaplice
I found it shocking that the dam was full of water on one side; but on the other side; way down there; was a village: Seemed like a recipe for disaster:::
Through some smaller areas and roads, zhich I also visited in that epic January 2016 ride btw
15 months ago I was doing this section in the dark. Today I could behold the dam. It was a mighty view
Just beautiful!
My GPS sent me right for the last 5 km, but I saw this sign going left, indicating Kaplice in 8 km. I took on the few extra miles.
Which granted me with this spectacular view.
Late evening on Saturday in Czechia's southernmost Kaplice: I also took the time to realize that this was my last all day ride with this bicycle: I would be selling it on Monday.
Yup it has been an all day task, whilst carrying heavy laptop. Town to seek for the hotel and relax!
A small bike path led me to the city center, where I found a potraviny; bought a drink and asked for the specific address:
I found it very swiftly, this time I booked it right in the city center: There was no restaurant but I went to a nearby Czech place for food: After that I went to bed. Game over!
228 km done of the ride to Linz. Tomorrow would be a lot shorter, just 100 km.
