December 4, 2015: Tabor-Prague on a very cold yet sunny Sunday

Garmin Activity: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/1471698098
129 km, 6h42, 1764hm. Trip rating 80%

This hotel had a check out time of 09.30, which is very early, but for me it wasn't all that bad. We ate breakfast at 8.30 and then I got ready to start cycling. The girls drove back to Prague, I would cycle of course.

The hardest part of any bike ride is to just get started. When it is minus eight, that is all the more true

Zizkove namesti in Tabor, one last salute before I headed out

It is around 125 km between Tabor and Prague

Same view from last night but now different time of the day

Tabor has already become my terrain. I know the roads here by heart.

My GPS sent me through some bike path which was frozen, so I just followed my own memory and headed out of town.

Cycling path 11 would lead straight to Prague, that would be only 107 km. Probably that is the south of the city

Many roads I remembered from a trip that I took here exactly a year ago. This time it was a lot colder

This weekend will leave a deep impression on me

Just enjoying these rare panoramas

I already understood my GPS was not sending me via the shortest way, but that was alright. It was only 125km today.

There was a lot more elevation than I remembered from last time

I left later so the sun rose pretty high early on the day

Jesus Christ

A pound which is frozen solid

All of these views made me take many pictures

The stark contrast between the bright sun and the frozen lands

Christmas time is coming

After some 20-25 km I had already left South Bohemia.

Less than 100 km to Prague.

This whole area was new to me. I did not cycle to Prague like this last time

A lot of elevation gain, many beautiful views, it was quite a ride

Nearing Votice, the main spot between Tabor and Benesov

Right before a descent. I drank some sips of my water which was not frozen solid yet.

Having discs in this temperature is nice. A car went past me and then hit the brakes very sharply. I needed to brake badly. I would have rammed it if I was not using my disc bike.

I know my Czech geography well: I am approaching Benesov here

It was almost 13.00h when that happened

I remembered some sections and I stopped at a Potraviny where I once stopped before. This was the half way point of the ride. 60+ km left.

Tynec nad Sazavou was nearby, but my GPS once again sent me differently

Mind the castle in the background

Icy world with dry roads, lovely stuff

Once I came here in the summer. This spot indicates the cycling distance to all big European cities

Winter rides are always short because of the lack of daylight. The sun was already setting and I was running of out time.

I arrived in Prague before darkness but it was still 25 km to home.

As soon as I entered Prague it got very foggy. I switched on both front and rear lights to have maximum visibility. The temperature also dropped to minus eight.

See how foggy this is? Not normal! I needed to be very careful!

Almost home! My only concern was the visibility for other cars here

Approaching Dubec. I now know all these areas on the map and I can navigate freely. From here it is 15 km to home.

Before arriving home, it was already dark. I made it safe and sound

It has been a successful weekend with 290km and 4300hm.

After coming home, we went bowling in the city. It was a nice weekend! Hopefully it will stay dry
