84km, 3h08, elevation 267m. Trip rating 75%
Home again for two weeks, time for a quick bike ride in Limburg. I first went to the bank for my mom and then I did a 80 km ride.
It was still a bit wet and cold, typical winter weather
I stopped at my former elementary school and took a moment to think back of the time I studied there; 20 years ago.
They tore down all the buildings except this one. The government judged it was no longer safe for school children.
I visited the bank, post and insurance office for my mom, all of that in only 20 min.
Lummen city hall
And then the spin around Limburg started. Crossing the Albertkanaal here.
Actually this part was identical to when I cycled to Germany on August the 29th. That was already a full four months ago. Time is really flying.
The sun came out but it stayed fairly cold with 2-3 degrees.
Good morning Limburg
I just followed the twists and turns as suggested by Garmin, it was nothing special.
At some point I arrived at the big interstate road of Houthalen-Helchteren, the one I know from driving to the Netherlands.
I had to follow that road for a mile and then there was a bike path.
Chinese oil transport
Many memories along this road, mostly by car, sometimes by bike.
There is a theme amusement park here, called Molenheide
The typical cold air and flat lands filled me with a homecoming feeling. It's been a few years now that I am living abroad and time is passing.
Ten km along this bike path. I remember that in 2013, I was once sent through this bike path on my way home. Second time I came here was more than three years later.
No traffic at all here; very relaxing
I made a videoclip and I enjoyed the moment
Welcome to forest land
Nice castle-house
I just like taking many pictures when I cycle, it leaves a nice memory
Slowly I was approaching the border of Belgium and Netherlands
No elevation gain today, but enough headwinds and chilly temperatures to deal with
Grey skies
After 40 km, my GPS was sending me home again.
Dutch style house
It was almost two o clock and the sun was already setting. Aarrgh those short winter days
I captured a few panoramas
Compared to Czech republic, Belgian roads are in excellent condition.
I stopped here to eat a banana. There was a school and a Christmas Stall
25 km left to home
Merry Christmas everyone!
I remembered that there was a better way to get home, via Oostham. So that's where I went.
The weather got a lot better too
I used to cycle here when I visited my family in the Netherlands
I went home via the Albertkanaal
It doesn't matter how long I will be gone, I will always remember these roads
Welcome in Lummen!
Dangerous turn here
