November 4, 2016: Friday morning ride before Bratislava is my weekend saver

Garmin Activity.: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/1433757509
133 km, 5h19, elev. 1150hm. Trip rating 80%

I was gonna visit my mom in Bratislava this weekend, but I did a quick ride on Friday morning. I had my GPS calculate a loop of 130 km. I set out in darkness

Similar to previous rides, slowly watching darkness fade away. Albeit, this time colder than usual.

The GPS sent me to the southeast part of Prague, Zelenec.

Temperature was quickly dropping below zero, brrrr cold!

There was an 11 km stretch which passed through Uvaly. There I saw the sunrise

Beautiful sunrise

Very cold indeed, minus 4.2. Extremely cold even.

The 11 km section next to a bigger road was not very enjoyable. At least there was physical space for cyclists and I did not have to compete with any motor vehicles.

\Checkpoint Uvaly on a very cold morning.

Stunning panorama! Later I learned that this long section brought me to Cesky Brod. I recognized it when I was there.

In Cesky Brod I kinda followed the familiar route to Kutna Hora, passing through small towns such as Ksely and Vitice.

At a certain point there was a new route for me. I noticed how it was beautiful and dry, yet extremely cold. From the picture it is not possible to judge that it was near -5.

I dressed up extensively and did not feel warm because of that.

Friday morning meant not a lot of traffic. Everybody was at work.

Clear blue sky, sun very visible, yet negative temperature. Bizarre!

Good morning Czech hinterlands!

The rising sun in Autumn

I took it easy and made many pictures

Truly a beautiful experience, I soon found myself lost in thoughts

Bart looking over the horizon. What will be next on his route?

Next town on the map was Kourim, another well known location.

Cesky Brod, Kourim, Kutna Hora is my usual itinerary for rides east of Prague

More vast outlands

I recognized this area from a weekend ride in the beginning of this year. I remember I was cycling here on Sunday afternoon, heading back to Prague.

It made me think how one year in Prague has passed. It gave me a very strange feeling.

It was almost identical to a ride to Kutna Hora. passing through Horni Chvatliny and Becvary.

Already more than two hours in the ride, nice!

GPS did something weird here. It sent me into this off road path for one km and then ordered me to go back.

At first I hoped there would be a nice connection to somewhere.

Unfortunately it was really a dead end ally.

I went back to Route 2 and went left on a location where I otherwise always have to go right.

Autumn at its finest

That place was called Chotouchov. It marked that I was 50% in the ride and heading back home.

Somewhere in between Kutna Hora and Kolin.

Wonderful small roads away from civilization

Jesus Christ Holy Cross

My GPS had announced around 650m elevation gain, but it would be about double that

No time pressure, I would be home a little after twelve.

I tried to enjoy it as much as possible

Radim... also the name of my Czech language teacher.

And then I recognized again where I was. From here it was 38km home. Came home via these roads a few times.

I even passed my buddy Jan's home in Cesky Brod again.

Ahoj Honzo!

From there I cycled through all these towns where Jan and I cycled together in September. like Vykan.

But the surroundings already displayed a different face. Oh, the change of seasons...

Every ride is special in its own way

Near Stara Boleslav I saw this shrine for War Victims.

I took some time to check this historic area of Stara Boleslav. Had never done it before.

Made a videoclip here.

And from there it was 11 km to home.

Schoellerova, the last street before Cukrovarska. I arrived well on time and got ready for my train.

It made the train ride a lot more bearable
