April 3, 2016: Plzen, Karlstejn and 19,000 km on my Roubaix

201 km, 8h31, elevation gain 2409 m. Trip rating: 90%

I had a good night rest. Unlike last week, I did not lose one hour due to the time switch. This was the view from my hostel window, Vseruby in the early morning

I would not go back the same way I came yesterday. Today I would go to Prague, passing by two focus areas, the first being Pilzen city (I had never been there before) and the second one the castle of Karlstejn.

The first segment of the ride, Pilzen city, was 75 km from Vseruby. I was pleased to see that I did completely go via other roads. It was a second discovery in the same weekend!

It was a bit chilly still, but obviously the weather would be perfect!

The beginning of another legendary ride

Western Czechia in the early morning. I was sent through so many little paths, incredible selection of roads.

This village name is just fabulous for speakers of Dutch: Oprecht-ice! The town of sincerity

Lately I have been paying more attention to these route numbers

Engaging on Pilzen. I saw several other cyclists here too.

I saw one little town with a Potraviny that was actually open. Apart from that, it was pretty much views like these

Already more than 50 km in the saddle. I was not rushing, after all I had time

During this segment I was completely in trance, having profound thoughts. The miles just passed without me even realizing

Welcome to the city of Pilzen, one of Czechia's largest cities

The bike path I was sent via was plainly horrible. I took some snapshots of the city center

Impressive cathedral, leans to the Ancient German building style

I stopped here to enjoy my lunch. I charged my GPS a little and calculated the distance to the next segment, Karlstejn. It was 85 km.

One last picture of Pilzen

The afternoon part was also fantastic, just so relaxing. Not a worry in my head, just head for Karlstejn

See that? I am in a good mood! 500km like this is no problem

It did get hot around 1 pm so I stopped to take off more clothes

Impressive panorama's here

With 120km from the border, it took a bit longer for me to reach Stredocesky Kraj, but there it was. Region of Beroun. Karlstejn was now close.

Elevation was pretty low here, but more hills ahead of me

I was not the only one enjoying this beautiful day

No idea what the name of this castle is, but it sure is nice

There was a section at 200 m elevation, but after this bridge, I climbed right back to 400.

This Spring is starting to please me more and more...

Karlstejn only a few miles from here. I stopped at a nearby gas station for a drink and a snack.

Welcome to Karlstejn

I could already see the castle from far out

Disappointing that this place was packed with tourists, moreover, there was not really a road for cycling to the castle itself. It was only a forest trail. So I decided to just continue to Prague. I do not like masses of people

To my surprise it was only 45 km from Karlstejn to my place. There were a few hills and a lot of traffic. I was clearly on one of the most famous routes out of Prague on a sunny Sunday afternoon. It made me think of those roads outside of Taipei in the weekends of 2012. Same story.

19.000 km on my road bike this weekend. It appears that 20K should be possible in april!

I was sent through a new series of roads in Prague city, some bike paths with a lot of people. Places where you cannot really ride fast. The last 15 km were the usual stuff with the cobbles and trams.

I made it home before darkness and even had time to go to the supermarket for some ingredients. Another successful weekend I would say.
